As part of the LIFE IP Peatlands and People project, a community consultation was recently held in Athlone to gather feedback on the proposed Climate House and Marconi Heritage Centre.

The event formed part of the project's commitment to ensuring that local communities and stakeholders play an active role in shaping initiatives that support climate action, sustainable development and regional regeneration across the Midlands.

Attendees represented a diverse range of interests, including local residents, educational institutions, community organisations, heritage groups, environmental organisations, businesses and public bodies. Discussions explored the site's heritage significance, opportunities for tourism and education, and the role Climate House could play in inspiring positive environmental action.

The Climate House concept has been developed through the LIFE IP Peatlands and People project and represents one of a number of initiatives aimed at supporting Ireland's transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.

The project team would like to thank all those who participated in the consultation. The insights gathered will help inform future planning and development, with further engagement opportunities planned as the project progresses.
