A major exhibition titled "BogSkin", which examines the relationship of Irish art to the boglands over the past 50 years, is coming to the Croghan Gallery at Esker Arts in Tullamore, Offaly this Summer.
Official opening: Saturday, May 10th, at 3 p.m. The exhibition runs until Saturday, June 28th, 2025.
On tour after opening at the RHA in January, BogSkin, an exploration of the bog through painting, video, and sculpture comes to the Croghan Gallery at Esker Arts this Summer. The bog has always occupied a central role in Irish life, in our folklore, history and home life. The exhibitors are delighted to present BogSkin, curated by RHA Director, Patrick T Murphy.
As part of our Peatlands & Art campaign, we previously interviewed two artists who are featured in the "BogSkin" exhibition - Tina Claffey and Fiona Mc Donald.
Tina Claffey is an award-winning nature photographer and author from County Offaly. With a degree in photography, she worked in the fashion industry for many years until a particular assignment brought her to the African continent. This opportunity ignited her passion for the continent’s pristine landscapes. After nearly a decade of photographing Botswana’s wildlife, Tina returned to Ireland with a mission to capture the natural beauty of her homeland. Learn more about Tina's photography here.
Fiona McDonald is a Dublin-based interdisciplinary artist whose primary inspiration stems from the intersection of nature, technology, and the hidden systems that shape our world. Her practice incorporates art, technology, and environmental themes, reflecting her belief that art and science are complementary disciplines in understanding the world. Fiona is particularly fascinated by quiet, slow processes that occur in nature, like the breathing of peatlands or subtle shifts in ecosystems, and how these processes can be made tangible through art. Learn more about Fiona's art here.
