Our LIFE IP Peatlands and People Steering Committee had a great day out in the field yesterday, planting sphagnum moss plugs on the Kilaranny bog for the BnM peatland revegetation campaign.
The field trip was preceded by a meeting in BnM's Boora Office to provide the LIFE IP Peatlands and People Steering Committee (SC) with key updates on project progress and allow them to feed into project developments before the close of the project's 2nd Phase.
The meeting also includes updates on the linked Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ireland projects, which explore best practices in peatland restoration monitoring.

Sphagnum Moss Plugs Planted At Kilaranny bog, 27th May 2025
As part of their campaign, the BnM team assembled over 1 million Sphagnum moss plugs in 2024. This marked a significant milestone for the LIFE IP Peatlands and People project and is crucial in accelerating bog revegetation and shortening the time required for these ecosystems to begin sequestering carbon. BnM plan to plant 1.1 million plugs in 2025 in two planting phases during Spring (500K plugs) and Autumn (600K plugs).
