As we approach the end of the year, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on some of the milestones we have achieved this year. From rehabilitating Irish peatland sites to designing a shared vision of an Ireland-based Climate House and creating engaging experiences for people to connect with nature, it has been an action-filled year without doubt!

We would like to congratulate Arthur Devine on his well-deserved retirement after three impactful years leading the project, and warmly welcome Conor Mooney, our new Project Coordinator, as we carry this year’s momentum forward.

In 2025, the project has reached some key milestones:

  • Peatlands Excellence: BnM are on track to plant over 1 million Sphagnum plugs in 2025. This will result in a combined total of over 2 million plugs planted at 27 different BnM bogs covering 450.3 hectares to date. Peatlands and People also coordinated with Leave No Trace to deliver the "Hot Spot project" for the second year in a row, offering corporate open days to companies.Over four days in September, 143 Deloitte employees planted 18,500 Sphagnum moss plugs – helping to bring damaged bogs one step closer to recovery.
  • Just Transition Accelerator: Accelerate Green supported 9 scaling climate-focused SMEs and hosted its fourth annual conference in Tullamore — deepening Ireland’s green innovation ecosystem.
  • People's Discovery Experience / Climate House: Extensive work on concept development over the last year led to the public debut of Climate House Ireland in September 2025! The Climate House Ireland Concept had its debut at the Climate Carnival, a festival which brought together more than 500 people passionate about climate action, innovation, and community.

We would like to thank you for your continued support in LIFE IP Peatlands and People this year and look forward to continuing onwards and upwards in 2026!
